In this section, we will explain how to create your own crossword from scratch (if you prefer, you can combine generation with manual creation). Use the side menu for quick navigation.
In the card below titled 'WORDS', click on the field with the description 'Example' and type your first word (don't worry, you can change it later). Press 'ENTER' on your keyboard or click the '+' button.
Once done, you will notice the following appears:
To move the words you've created, you need to connect them using their matching letters. You have two options for this:
To position all words automatically, click the gear icon in the menu on the right. If a word doesn't fit, try a few more times. If the error persists, check the spelling. Case is ignored, but words with and without accents are considered different.
All words are initially locked, meaning you cannot move them. To change this and move each word individually:
You can also toggle your word between vertical and horizontal. Click the (grid) icon, but remember to allow word editing (pencil icon) first.
This section explains how to generate a complete crossword based on a single theme (you can also combine this with manual creation). Use the side menu for quick navigation.
To generate a crossword about a theme, follow these steps:
- If your theme doesn't generate, refresh the page. If the error persists, try describing the theme differently (you can change the title later).
- Check the generated answers and clues. You can edit them anytime by clicking on them.
- Keep your audience and difficulty level in mind when choosing the number of words (15 to 30 words is usually ideal).
- Avoid overly complex themes.
- Avoid themes that are too abstract.
- Don't give away the answer directly in the clue.
- Remember: You know the answers, but your audience doesn't. Create clues that are solvable.
NOTE: To zoom in or out on the crosswords, press the + and - buttons on the left.
